In May, 1997, Director Kirby invited 42 persons to participate in an Emeritus Program for the Center. We extended the program to include all retired scientists from Northern Prairie and also to all persons retired from management positions in our original parent Bureau (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) or other organizations who have interacted strongly with us over the years. Our first year's goal was to establish the concept, initially correspond with each participant, and offer use of certain Center facilities such as the library. In subsequent months, we will be including Emeritus members in Center mailings, asking them for input on issues critical to the Center, and keeping them informed of the progress of our work. It is our intent to make Emeritus staff an integral part of our annual program.
