Results of the 2002 Jamestown Christmas Bird Count

On 18 December 2002, eighteen individuals participated in the annual Jamestown Christmas Bird Count. Participants traveled 3.0 party miles (2.25 party hours) by horseback, 22.3 party miles (15.5 party hours) on foot, and 379.2 party miles (36.0 party hours) by car. Noteworthy species included a Common Goldeneye, an adult Golden Eagle, a juvenile female Northern Goshawk, a Sharp-shinned Hawk, nine American Robins, three Northern Shrikes, and a Bohemian Waxwing. On Count day, participants observed 5,078 individual birds of 39 species. A pair of Mourning Doves was observed during the week of the Count but not on the day of the Count. Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center of the U.S. Geological Survey provided vehicles for travel. Thanks to everyone who participated!
