Results of the 2001 Jamestown Christmas Bird Count

On 19 December 2001, sixteen individuals participated in the annual Jamestown Christmas Bird Count. Participants traveled 3.0 party miles (3.00 party hours) by horseback, 20.9 party miles (18.00 party hours) on foot, and 481.5 party miles (37.25 party hours) by car. Noteworthy species included a Snowy Owl, a Sharp-shinned Hawk, and a Prairie Falcon. On Count day, participants observed 3,782 individual birds of 37 species. A Cooper’s Hawk, a Northern Bobwhite, and a Common Raven were observed during the week of the Count but not on the day of the Count. Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center of the U.S. Geological Survey provided vehicles for travel. Thanks to everyone who participated!
