On 15 December 2000, sixteen individuals participated in the annual Jamestown Christmas Bird Count. Participants traveled 15.5 party miles (14.25 party hours) on foot and 418.6 party miles (41.00 party hours) by car. Noteworthy species included a Pied-billed Grebe and a Song Sparrow, two species that typically do not winter in the Jamestown area. On Count day, participants observed 3,748 individual birds of 42 species. A Common Grackle was observed during the week of the Count but not on the day of the Count. Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center of the U.S. Geological Survey provided vehicles for travel. Thanks to everyone who participated! Special thanks to Amy Igl, Jill Dechant, Betty Euliss, and Amy Zimmerman for providing lunch for Count participants.
